Still Waiting

We had our 39 week appointment today with the doctor and the verdict is .... drumroll please .... still waiting ....

This came as a disappointment to both of us, but especially to me because I was up every hour on the hour last night with contractions. Fortunately for Jason, I spent the night pacing in the living room so at least HE could get a good night's sleep. I thought for sure after all that getting up and moving around that the doctor would take one look at me and say "good gracious, woman, you are dilated to 5 cm and need to get to the hospital posthaste!" Ha, no, he said something more akin to "keep up the Mall Walker routine and we'll see where that gets you."

So we're still waiting. It's funny - I would rate my discomfort level throughout this pregnancy at only a moderately annoying (including sleepless nights, sciatic nerve issues, etc.), but the agony of waiting ... knowing at ANY SECOND my water could just break and that would be it .... THAT is the worst part. At least, so far ....

Wait, WHAT time is it?!

I've given up on sleeping today ... Jason and I crashed early last night, about 9:30 or so, and I was hoping to get many hours of restful slumber ... what a joke! I've woken up three times since then, which is kind of a big deal for me. Yeah, I get up all the time to use the bathroom, but I normally don't WAKE up. Usually I just sort of half stumble around without fully opening my eyes. Nosiree, not tonight. At 4:30 AM, I finally decided to just call it quits and get something to eat. And update our blog, of course ....

Yesterday I went on a shopping frenzy and stocked up our freezer with some homemade and store-bought meals that we could eat in the weeks ahead when we're too busy/disoriented to know how to feed ourselves. This photo doesn't really do justice to the stockpile of assorted food items we have stashed now, but you get the idea.

Otherwise, yesterday was pretty quiet. I did have some contractions in the evening, which perhaps were brought on by walking around Meijer for a few hours - which was a recommendation of my doctor to induce labor. He also told me to eat a giant burrito at the Beltline Bar ... but not to induce labor. Just because he likes their burritos.

Well, I guess that's it for now. Maybe at a more sane hour I will have something more interesting to post.
